School bus conversion PJ 4-7-03
We are planning to purchase a bus and convert to a home for a family of 4. We have 2 daughters we homeschool and a place to park our home when we are not traveling/working. This just seems like the perfect way to spend time with each other and our kids, travel and own our home, and not have to kill ourselves working to have it all. This is a big change from the mondane "normal" lifestyle and feel this would be an adventure for all of us!
I was wondering if anyone knew of any sites that have plans for converting a school bus into an RV/HOME. But mostly needing info. on do it yourself floors, walls, and where to purchase stuff for this type of project. Any info. on travel clubs or discount organizations. We are wanting to keep the cost really low. We have not yet purchased a school bus. We are just in the very early deciding/planning stages. Any information/advice you may have would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
PJ

My advice - if you don't live in California - pick up one of the Crown coaches at A-Z bus sales for $3500. They are in the backflip, under BUS DEALERS/CLASSIFIED

And find the picture of a Crown without its skin in the Crown directory. Your classic brick house.

What part of the country are you in? And how much are you planning to spend?

I recently was given a 1982 school bus that ran pretty well. Just the maintenance on the bus has cost me about five hundred dollars. Changing plugs, wires, hoses, fluids, filters, and I had to replace the front breaks. If you do choose to by a school bus make sure it has maint records. Check the brakes. A new brake job on one of those old buses is like 800 dollars all the way around, just because parts are limited, at least that is what I have found. Good luck. I have really enjoyed my bus but it is nothing more than a party bus.

Hi, if you are looking for a bus yet. My wife and I are ready to sell ours. We've converted it already. My brother is a plumber and my dad a carpenter. It looks really nice. Shower, toilet, water heater, awning, teak cabinets. It is a beautiful 1977 International. We just drove it back from Orlando. It runs really well. The engine only has 5000 miles on it. I'm in Wisconsin, but could possibly deliver it. Let me know what you think. Ryan
