I have a 1980 40 ft Carpenter Corsair with a Cat 3208 and an Allison AT 545 tranny and want to know what is involved in putting a turbo on it? How would doing so effect the milage? She's a flat land bus and crusies great at 65 but the slightest hill bogs her down.

I am sure it can be done. The first two things to do would be to find what the compression ratio of your current engine is, and compare it with the compression ratio of a turbo motor. The next thing is the 545. Will it hold up to a turbo motor? This stuff can get expensive, so be prepared for sticker shock and shop carefully......... John the busboy

Check truck dismantlers and see what a used Turbo and exhaust manifold would cost. I think that a 3208T had about 250 horse power. For more power you will need to put some more fuel in with the turbo pressurized air. Read up on Banks add ons to get a more technical feel of the changes that need to be made.

Get yourself a "waste gate" turbo if the 3208 has different compression ratio's between stock non-turbo & turbo engines. That way you dont need to change compression ratio's.
