Insurance/license quuestoin. Mark Cheng 3-7-03  
I have a Wayne International 1989 School bus. Half size. About 30 feet long. I'm having trouble finding car insurance for it. It's not converted to an RV yet. I don't plan on putting a kitchen. Just beds and couches and entertainment center. Who can insure this for me? Will they cover anything that gets stolen inside?

Also what kind of license do I need to drive it? I have a class C. I have been told conflicting stories. Since it's 30 feet I can drive it with a class C no problems. Guy at DMV told me that I need a class B if I carry passengers other then family. If it's converted to an RV does it change anything?

CDL is needed when:

Gross Weight is greater than 26,000 lbs.

Trailer weighs more than 10,000 lbs.

15 souls on board, including driver.

Hazardous materials are being transported.

Your state DMV has a free handout listing who needs a CDL, and what you need to know to get one.

In MA. you only need a regular drivers licence to drive the bigest bus conversion as long as it is registered as an "Auto Home"
