1972 International 160 (8cyl) Matt 2-24-03  
I recently aquired a 1972 International 160. I have not seen it, nor can i find any information pertaining to this type of 'bus'. All i have been told is that it needs keys and a battery. The inside has a 'kitchenette' in it and has not been on the road since 1993. If someone could help me gain information about this type of bus that would be great.

That year of bus came with a nuclear generator powered motor, like in a submarine. if you spell bus backwards it spells 'SUB'. You'll need some Skibba injectors, Craig can help put them in along with the retarded zamboni driver. Ask Jeese he is a master mechanic, he can tub out the rear end for some slicks, I see 20 second 1/4 mile runs in your future. Happy tail gating. Ill see you in Gravenhurst.

Im guessing your bus actually is a 1972 international 1600 series loadstar as a schoolbus would most likely be on a 1600 chassis back then.as far as the engine it could either be a 345,392,or a 404 CI its probably a 345. i own a couple 70s model international schoolbuses so if you have any questions feel free to ask and i most likely will have a answer.

I have a 1972 Internation Loadstar 1600, 8 cyl, 4 spd with a 2 spd. rear-end, and it keeps overheating. What could be the problem? It only has 36,000 miles on it

Thanks Aaron. I believe it is a 22ft bus, not a full lenght one. However, because i have not seen it, i am not totally sure. Do you have any ideas about what the weight may be? over 25000lbs? Thanks again

If the bus is a 22 foot bus im sure its under the 26,000lbs limit. as long as it doesnt have air brakes you most likely wont need a CDL to opperate it. when you see the bus if you look above the drivers side window there will be a data plate there that has the gross weight of the bus on it.

Well Bus Buddy and i checked it out this weekend, and boy were we ever plesantly surprised. the link below is the temporary website that i created from the polaroid pictures we took. it is indeed a mighty machine. only 95k original miles ta boot! this was never used as a bus, it was purchased without any interior seats and converted right away. anywho thanks for the help Bus Buddy and IHC Busman...big up bof yer chests!

Wow im amazed at the condition your bus is in it looks like it just rolled off the asembly line in 1972 what size engine does it have in it? a 345 and is it a auto or 4 speed with 2 speed? it looks like one of my buses i have a 1968 IHC/thomas 71 pass schoolbus which still looks like it just rolled off the asembly line. its still in good shape for just resting on the farm. i bet if i put a battery in it would start right up since its been sitting since 1999

Thanks again Aaron. Now my next question is, Where can i get a manual for this thing? i tried getting a Chilton's guide, but unable to find one for this bus. do you have any leads on where i can find out more about this bus. particularly the engine, chassis etc...

they have a reprint service manual for your bus it really is a medium duty truck chassis with a bus body installed on it. you can order a 3 volume service manual for your bus on there its not to bad its only $134.00 as i paid $350 for my manual which covers 1990-95 IHC buses. to find out what type of body the bus has take a look above the drivers window in the bus at the data plate and it will have all the info you need. your bus is a loadstar model and im guessing a 1600 series. you can find that out by looking at the model plates on the sides of the hood. it should say loadstar 1600.

NEED a hard to find part.

the only thing i need to get this thing on the road is a STEARING BOX

which international does not make anymore, and everywhere i have looked has come up empty :-(

so the mechanic is getting it rebuilt, and once again there is a part for the stearing box that is hard to find, thus it still aint on the road.

the 1972 international loadstar 1600 with 302 engine and powerstearing needs help to get on the road.

any help?
