I want to replace the 5 speed transmission in my International School bus with an Allison AT545 4 speed tranmission. I am also looking for the shifting cables, etc for the bus.
I have (2)International T35 transmissions that are in good shape. I also have the associated preasure plate, flywheel and clutch disc. I want $450.00 each for the transmissons.
I am located in Poulso, WA. up on the Kitsap Peninsula North of Bremerton.
Why would you want to spend the time, money and effort to put an Allison AT545 in a bus? Unless it is a little bitty bus, the AT545 is not really enough transmission for a full size bus.
If you really want an automatic, go up a size and put in an Allison MT643. It will handle the loads much better. It will also hold you back on the downgrades a lot better than the AT545.
The easiest way to do a conversion is to find a truck or bus with all the parts and pieces you need and switch it all out. Purchasing all of the parts piecemeal may actually cost more than purchasing a donor vehicle.
I finally drew that conclussion and aftermuch thought decided to stay with a T-35 transmission (5 speed with direct 5th gear).
Thank yoyu for your input.
