I have a 1985 Wayne Body, GMC motor, and we have converted it. Doing final touches now. When we bought it the left rear signal light didn't work, but thought it just needed a bulb. We were wrong, there is no power to the light. Can someone tell me where, to find the solution other than taken the panels apart? Help
Are the light socket contacts rusted? Sometimes, this can cause enough resistant to prevent power getting to the bulb. We had this problem with our boat trailer lights. Remedy this by removing the rust with emery cloth, and spray a little electrical contact cleaner on it. Make sure power is turned off by disconnecting the battery negative terminal first. Otherwise, you might short something out, or worst, start a FIRE with the contact cleaner.
Also, you can take an ohm meter (most volt meters have an ohm meter) to check if the line is open (cut or broken) somewhere, which might be causing the problem. In that case, use the ohm meter to trace, isolate, and find where the break is.
One of two things is going on. Either you aren't getting any juice or you aren't getting a good ground.
In most cases I have found it is usually a bad ground that causes a light failure and not a broken wire.
I have also found on older lights that the spring inside the light socket has lost most of its spring and isn't making good contact with the bottom of the bulb.
You may find it easier to replace the whole unit than to try and clean up the crud and make the old light work.
FIST, get to the soket, use a test lamp, poke the terminal, (make sure you got good contact on the ground, test with an other circuit) If test light light lid, it is bad contact. if not, around the steering collum, there is a half moon connector with 8-10 wires coming from the turn signal switch, you should have 2 wire flashing on each side, ( 1 for the front, 1 for the rear).
I don't think the wire are bad in the panel unless a screw went trough.
