NOISE Level	DT	5-22-02
I have a GMC Chevy Deisel 1991 Handycap Bus with lift removed in the early stages of conversion. As we ride down the road it sounds like a bus. Is there anyway to quiet it down so we dont have to scream at each other to be heard. There is a lot of noise from tires and road and engine and entrance step area. Any ideas ? Thanks in advance... I converted an aluminum step van last summer. It was very loud inside until I started installing furniture, cabinets, wall partitions, etc. To finish the ceiling with a little insulating value I used foam backed carpet. That really helped to absorb noise. Also, insulating the bottom of body parts with undercoating or pickup bed liner coating helps. I just started work on a 1975 Crown school bus with a Detroit diesel. I was surprised at how quiet it was on the way home ( 1,700+ miles) but noticed a huge difference after I had removed all of the seats. Think insulation and sound absorbtion. Have fun & good luck!

What kind of body is your bus equipped with? Blue Bird bodies have a stepwell insulation package that you can get. They also have perforated ceiling panels that can help with noise reduction. You can add plywood over the steel to insulate road noise from the passenger area. The final item is to add insulation to the firewall area inside the bus, and do not forget to add some type of covering to the top of the transmission ( if you have a manual transmission).

Thanks for the tips. The body is by Chevy...automatic trans, Alison, 8.2ltr deisel. Adding plywood is an idea I didnt think of. I will keep plugging away at it.
