I am the proud owner of a parts Crown, 5 parts Gilligs, and two Ford B700s...yes, I LIKE buses. I have also dismantled 1 Crown and 2 Gilligs with my own two hands, so I know a LOT about them. I run a non profit called the Wheelchair Project (and teach high school) and I use buses as both my transport vehicles for medical supplies, and as my fundraiser for my non profit.
I offer FREE advice to anyone who can put up with me. I drive a 1970 Gillig (1160 CAT/5 speed) and a '73 Ford (3208 CAT/5 speed) and buses are one of my main mechanical joys in life!! I love diesel stuff in general, and also own a Deutz generator, a Rugerrini, a Lister (ALL diesel) a diesel pickup, a diesel car...so Feel Free to write or call for advice
I'm at (559) 251-3814 or (559) 349-6242,or just go to my website http://www.WheelchairProject.org
I am a first time bus buyer and came across this- do you know of anywhere I could find a parts manual or where would be a good place to look for spare parts or what it would take to convertthis for recreational use? Thank you for your time.

Gillig also used DD 6V-53 engines in their older buses and DD 6V-92 engines in their Phantom series school buses and transit coaches. The new Phantoms use DD series 50 and series 60 4-cycle engines.
I have also seen the odd GM conventional bus with a DD 6V-53.
