I havw a concept of converting a flat fage bus to pull a 5th wheel. Cut off thebody at about 6 feet ahead of the axle and the frame behind the springs. yhe front could be converted. Any ideas if it woyld work
I may be purshasing a 31 Ft. 67 BB conversion bus. It has a straight 6 diesel with 5 spd. Allison. Conv. done about 20 years ago with many updates. Any input, possible trouble or opinions. Any pictures of 67 BB's.
Yes it wpould work great if you have the time and mechanical know how. All a Bus is is a truck...medium duty and been streached out.
In W. Virginia they convert busses into flat beds and aniamal haulers and rafting excursion vehicles.
Drawbacks...slow and hewavy gas users. The best 5th wheel goat is a japanese cab over truck..like a mitsubisi...with a 10 speed split axle and a four cylinder desiel/ 6 too...buy a used Ryder truck pull the rear box and build a sleeper extension on the cab to use as a garage...then mount the 5th wheel over the rear end..You will ove it.
Happy trails
Nicolas
Actually I have seen just such a rig running around. One of the local towing companines chopped off most of the body off of a Blue Bird TC 2000 and mounted a roll back flat bed car hauler with a lift. The resulting rig could transport two vehicles as well as eight passengers.
I see no reason why you couldn't adapt the same idea to pull a 5th wheel.
I have done what you are talking about with a regular bus body and it works out real well! Actually I have seen just such a rig running around.
