I have a 2009 Grand Caravan w/trailer package and large engine. Pulls my boat with ease. My problem is the front wheel drive when pulling the boat and trailer out of the water. The front wheels spin on gravel or cement and we have to push. Has anyone ever put a hitch on the front just for pulling the boat and trailer up the ramp.

I have a 2005 Grand Caravan 3.3 liter engine. I currently pull a coleman popup with absolutly no problem. Would like to get a starcraft expandable sport weight approximately 3500 lbs. Can I tow that without a problem?
Mike,
I think you have some likely hood of damaging your van's transmission. A 25 foot trailer, I assume camping trailer, would weigh at least 4000 lbs empty plus with supplies and equipment another 1000, assuming you don't fill the water tank. Plus the trailer will add a lot of wind drag. Something else that shouldn't be lost is that making it up the hills is hard but sometimes after you've gotten your brakes hot coming down is a whole lot worse. I travel a lot and have seen some pretty bad wrecks when trailers are involved. If you must do this, drive slow and never use overdrive and be very mindful of your stopping distance. One quick point about your parents car if it was an old sedan from the 70s it would have weighed 1500 lbs more than your van and would probably had a large V8 engine and lower gearing than your van.
I have recently returned from a 10,000 KM round trip to BC, towing a 14ft 2200lb trailer with my 2002 Caravan SE,with 3.3 engine, and towing package. The van pulled this trailer with little effort, hardly realizing there was a trailer. I would like to step up to a 16 or 18 ft trailer. What would be the safest maximum weight that I could tow with my van.
I was woulding, im think about buying 1985 dodge van.v8 engine to haul 26ft travel trailer would be hard on the trans. I think the engine is a 5.5 or 5.2 v8 cant remember its one of two
The standard towing for most Dodge Caravas is 2000lbs, Unless you have the optional towing group which allows you a towing weight oh upto 3800lbs. Keep in mind these weights include the occupants and load in the van.
Hi i have a 1994 dodge caravan se model im planning to purchase a fleetwood open trailer. with a weight load filled it says 3100 pounds i need to know if its ok for my van to pull it without dammaging the transmission.
I have 2000 Dodge caravan. I have to move across country. North Carolina to Oregon. I want to get a hitch and use the Uhaul tow dolly to tow my 98 Honda Civic. Would appreciate any input from anyone who has used their van to tow a car over a distance.
I have a 2002 Dodge Caravan, V6, 3.3 Engine size and I want to put a hitch and want to transport a disabled 2009 Dodge Caravan V6 3.3 engine size on a car dolly and the tires of the disabled Doge are in very good shape. Can you suggest whether it is possible without damaging transmission. The pulling 2002 Dodge will have no luggage, but will have two person, including the driver.
I have a 2002 Dodge Caravan and have been warned about towing anything with it, as it might damage the transmission. Was curious if it might be able to pull a small lightweight camper like a Scamp or R-Pod without any damage. Thanks
I'm thinking of buying a pop up trailer - weight is 2000 pounds. I have a 1994 long box Dodge Caravan with a 3.4 liter engine. Do I need to buy a special towing package to make this work? Everything I've read seems a little inconclusive one way or the other. I'd like to get a definitive before I commit to buying. I'd appreciate your comments on this.
Scheesh! The answers seem to be all over the place, and my Dodge Dealer was no help. I have a 2003 3.3 L Caravan, and want to to a boat & trailer; total weight 2255 lbs. I need to go 200 kms. each way; 4-5 times a summer. My hitch is rated for 3500 lbs, and the engine SEEMS that I have the extra cooler (so says mechanic friend) so... am I ok, or being dangerous with this?

I was wondering about the towing weight capacity for a 96 dodge caravan
4 cyclinder.. i want to take a cover wagon on the road, with weight of about 500 plus the trailer itself.
I just spoke to the Dodge Dealer here.
I have a 1998 Grand Caravan AWD, with load leveling, I requested what parts I would need to get the "Towing Package" He listed the HD Radiator and Trans Cooler, Thats all. Parts came to about $500.00 of course I could get these parts at Autozone for less, but with out the knowledge base behind the purchase, I still may just go with them and get the good stuff. BTW, I want to tow a 3500lb boat to the ramps locally.
I've been reading the posts about towing with a Dodge Caravan. Any information anyone has for answers to my question(s) will be greatly appreciated.
I have a 1996 Dodge Caravan, 3.8 liter engine, no Tow package. Maximum trailer weight, according to manual and tow local dealers is 2000 lbs. Maximum trailer weight with tow package is 3500 lbs. I want to get a T@B trailer that lists at 1650 lbs unloaded and 2000 lbs loaded. Dealer advice to me was to forget towing this trailer, or if I did, it was at my own risk. What I would like to know; is it possible to add components of a heavy duty tow package? and what are the components? If this repeats what I said to author of msg, I apologize. I thought this msg might be seen by all.
Would like to know the towing capacity of a 2005 Grand Caravan with stow & go without modifacations. If you are pulling about 3000-3500 pounds what are the modifications needed to the van.
I have a 2007 SXT Dodge Caravan and I want to know the weight I can safely tow with it.I want to purchase a trailer. If you can get back to me I would really appreciate it.Thanks
I have a 2005 Caravan with the six cylinder engine (3.3l?). Will I be able to pull a boat and trailer out of the water with this van? Obviously the angle of incline of the loading ramp will be a variable. Boat and trailer together weigh 2800 lbs. Answers would be appreciated.
I have a 2002 dodge grand caravan handicap van. I would like to know the maximum weight I can tow. Thanks for your reply.
Sincerely,

We have a 1998 Dodge Caravan all-wheel drive van. The transmission went out with only 115,000 miles on it. Our transmission man told us you should Not tow anything with this type of vehicle. Is that true?
I was looking into how much is recommended as a maximum to tow with my 2005 grand caravan v6. I have a tow package so from these posts it seems like 3500 is about the limit. But just so you all know, in England where I come from, trucks do not exist. So many people pull 20 feet travel trailers with MPV's like the dodge, or with SUV's. When I was growing up, we had a 17 feet travel trailer that we pulled with our family car. It was similar size to a Ford Taurus. I pulled a 13 feet travel trailer with a car the size of a geo metro with no problem at all. So I assume that my dodge can handle a 25 feet trailer. The only problem would be lots of hills which we never had to deal with in England.
I have a 2006 Dodge caravan. What's the most weight I can safely pull with this? The camper I'm interested in is a 2200 lb aerodynamically designed R-Pod.
I would like to tow a travel trailer with my Dodge Grand Caravan Sport 2001. I just need to know how much weight it will pull? It is a V-6 3.3.
Please advise.
I have a 2002 Dodge Caravan, 6 cylinder and was curious if it would be able to tow a lightweight camper such as a Scamp or R-Pod without damaging the transmission. Thanks
We are thinking of purchasing a 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan with a 3.3 L engine without a trailer package. I have a 10' Starcraft Pop Up and I believe the weight is under 2000 lbs. Can I install a hitch safely and be able to pull the trailer.
