On the subject of RV generators... I have the opportunity to purchase a 5Kw gas generator for a really sweet price. It is not listed as an RV gen.,what i want to know is: what makes an RV generator an "RV" generator vs. a plain generator?

Hi MIke, First of all, will 5Kw be sufficient for your needs? If so, what size is the tank for gasoline? Is it sufficient so that you don't have to continually be stopping and filling up? Also, what RPM is the motor running at? For RVs, it is nice to have a generator run at 1800 rpm, since this doesn't cause as much as disturbance when your parked near others. What kind of muffler does it have? If it is a contractor's model, think twice, since these are loud! It's up to you, but if it is a sweet deal, then you can always find a use for a generator. Whether or not you use it for your RV will be determinied by your needs. ED

I know that the RPM's cannot be changed, but can it be hooked up to the vehical fuel tank? For that matter, does it run on the same fuel? Also, can an RV muffler be installed? These are alternatives that come to mind.

My generator runs from my back fuel tank in the motor home. I have a 4000 watt Kohler. I ran the exhaust to the back, into a car muffler. After the car muffler, I used PVC pipe! I ran it up the back of the motor home and a foot above the roof. It works awesome!! It gets hot, but nothing like metal. I used some of that putty that comes in a tube that you mix together to hold the PVC to the metal pipe. I used the regular glue on the rest of the pipe. I painted it to match my home too. It works like a champ!!! Does not melt!! All the exhaust go up in the air. I had people complain of the fumes at a Nascar race, so I fixed that problem.

I am really a NEWBIE, just bought a R-Vision Condor 2000, 33 ft. The owner didn't explain how to hook up to Park 110. Right now the Large black 3 pronged pluag is plugged into what looks like a regular outlet - probably supply the 110 off the generator. Is that where I plug in a cord from the parks 30 amp box. Please help - anyone???

5000w is a lot of generator to be dragging around. Unless you're lighting up the neighborhood it's probably overkill, and the weight will be significant. The noise is one issue, as is the fuel. If it's gas, id recommend against hooking it up to the regular fuel tank. Can you add a 2nd fuel tank anywhere in your rig? 5000w is going to use some juice, and it could be easy to siphon off all your fuel and drain your fuel injectors dry, leaving you to bleed them back and possibly having to get mech assistance unless you're handy. Also make sure the output amperage is compatible with the wiring in your rig.
