Wintering the water hose connection Mike Allen 10-25-03
My son is buying his grandfathers motor home. He just started living in it. How can I and do I need to buy a heater to keep the water hose from freezing. We bought a Water King Water Pipe Heat Cable but it says not to use it on hose. I could use it on PVC but would have to wrap the PVC wuth aluminum tape but I can't use the rigid PVC pipe. Can I just use that sponge tube with a slit in the side of it and is there anything else I might need?. It has to be detachable so he can leave to go to get his propane tak filled when empty. Thank you Mike Allen.

Mike:

Am running through the same routine myself: staying in SBY, MD for the winter, and want the hose to be available (even though, could live on the internal tank)

Have had a couple of conversations: 1; with an owner thats done it is to wrap the hose in aluminum foil, then spiral wrap the tape, then cover with the sponge tube.

Next answer was from FMCA tech help, said why not put the hose into an electrical conduit, then wrap the conduit with tape, and then the insulation..... seems like extra work there, but does save the aluminum foil action.....

Haven't decided which way to go yet, but am leaning towards the conduit, even with the extra weight and cubage of the finished product for storage.
Let me know how you come along.

Reid
