1979 Dodge Diplomat Class C Percy 9-8-03
Hi;

My wife and I have just purchased a 1979 Dodge Diplomat Class C motorhome from my in-laws. We're both very new to this world of RV'ing and I have a couple of questions. 1) Is there any one else out there who has a Diplomat Motor Home (manufactured in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada)of the same year? 2) The Dodge 440 in this vehicle runs incredibly hot on the highway (enough so that it's hard to keep your foot on the gas pedal due to the heat) and 3)Can anyone suggest where I may be able to find a passengers side exhaust manifold for something this old.

Thank you very much in advance.

Percy

My wife and I recently purchased a 1977 23 foot diplomat but it is GMC 400 CID powered. Needs a bit of work but is usable right from the get go.

I have added an awning and a few other things to make her more user friendly.

I too had the heat problem but I re-insulated the doghouse and the floors with better grade of extreme heat insulation material.

We had a similar problem. The issue was on the floor, under the pedal a few wires come through the floorboard from the engine compartment. The rubber grommet that filled the extra space around the wires had rotted away. We fixed the doghouse insulation, put new insulation and carpeting in the cab, and fixed the wiring holes... and the sole is no longer melting off my sneakers.

Hello Percy, We have a 78' & a 79' both Dodge's- we have same issue, but ours caught plug wires on fire (both rv's /2yr apart) whats the odds? We replaced p/s ex/man for $95.00 but it still gets cherry red (driving w/out dog house on) to check it!! I am not sure where y'all are? But there is a place here in Dallas,TX that we have got some parts from; Bishop Engine Replacement Parts (214) 943-1104 (or) 800-231-1104 Some have suggested replace carb (thermo-quad) still did not help. IF Y'ALL FIGURE IT OUT PLEASE LET US IN ON THE SECRET!!

Can those that have pictures of their diplomat please e-mail me copies. Ours needs a paint job because someone tried removing all the decals and striping.

Thanks
Dennis

I have one. Are you saying the engine runs hot or the heat coming thru the floorboard is unbearable. The first problem I see is the manifold needs to be replaced. That could be the majority of your problem. Any junkyard should be able to find you one. If you are experiencing heat thru the floorboard you need to reinsulate the doghouse and make sure it has a good seal. This will also keep out any stray exhaust fumes. Feel free to email me. Kevin

I am very knowledgeable about Dodge motor homes. If ya need information or help just send me a note. The engines are very strong and with a little care will last a very long time. There are a few minor factory faults especially in the chassis made by Dodge. Frank in Idaho

One end is still attahed to the fuel tank ( it looks like anyways) not sure where the other end goes. The motor home no longer will start sounds like no fuel going there. Please help thanks lori

Have a 1977-79 Dodge Diplomat II motorhome that needs a shift cable. Any ideas where to get one or to have a custom cable made. I have the old cable removed from the vehicle and it measures 101.25 inches long. That is the length of the inner cable.
