My wife and I have just purchased a 1979 Dodge Diplomat Class C motorhome from my in-laws. We're both very new to this world of RV'ing and I have a couple of questions. 1) Is there any one else out there who has a Diplomat Motor Home (manufactured in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada)of the same year? 2) The Dodge 440 in this vehicle runs incredibly hot on the highway (enough so that it's hard to keep your foot on the gas pedal due to the heat) and 3)Can anyone suggest where I may be able to find a passengers side exhaust manifold for something this old.
I'm going to look at A 1979 Dodge Sercurity motor home. It is 24 ft long. The fridge is new, but is only electric. The roof leaks over thethe front bed. The matress is soaked. There is a 440 engine. The fuel is propain. tires fair. A/C off the motor. milage about 85000 miles. Could you give me the blue book price.

Hello Percy, We have a 78' & a 79' both Dodge's- we have same issue, but ours caught plug wires on fire (both rv's /2yr apart) whats the odds? We replaced p/s ex/man for $95.00 but it still gets cherry red (driving w/out dog house on) to check it!! I am not sure where y'all are? But there is a place here in Dallas,TX that we have got some parts from; Bishop Engine Replacement Parts (214) 943-1104 (or) 800-231-1104 Some have suggested replace carb (thermo-quad) still did not help. IF Y'ALL FIGURE IT OUT PLEASE LET US IN ON THE SECRET!!

I have one. Are you saying the engine runs hot or the heat coming thru the floorboard is unbearable. The first problem I see is the manifold needs to be replaced. That could be the majority of your problem. Any junkyard should be able to find you one. If you are experiencing heat thru the floorboard you need to reinsulate the doghouse and make sure it has a good seal. This will also keep out any stray exhaust fumes. Feel free to email me. Kevin
We had a similar problem. The issue was on the floor, under the pedal a few wires come through the floorboard from the engine compartment. The rubber grommet that filled the extra space around the wires had rotted away. We fixed the doghouse insulation, put new insulation and carpeting in the cab, and fixed the wiring holes... and the sole is no longer melting off my sneakers.
