|Is it too late to get excited about 1970 starcraft motorhomes ? I just purchased one in maryland. Serial # S-2000132, mft, 05/01/70 Mine is in less then pefect condition but it mainy needs make pretty work done to it.|
Interestly, I call Starcraft in the midwest and asked to speak to the company historian or archivest. I was transferred to Bob in customer service who has been with starcraft since the early 70's. Starcraft adimently refused to admit to making these motorhomes as their records show they did not start building them till 1972. I have a poorly mimeographed copy of the sales buyers brochure for 1972. Bob didn't even know starcraft had a plant in Decatur, Il, where mine was manufactured. So, now their are 4 of us.
Care to share info ?

|Good evening Michael:|
If anyone can help, It's Me. I was VP of engineering for Starcraft from 1964 to 1972. I personally handeled the purchase of Venture Motorhomes in Banning California. and we Developed the New 19' Starcraft from there. Due to management problems there we closed that plant and Moved our production of the new unit to Decatur Indiana. I think I have picture proofs for the literature and so on somewheer. I can tell you most anything about this unit and how they were built.
I left Star and was a founder of Rockwood in 1972.
I retired in 2003 from Owens Corning
Fabwel Division and am now doing consulting work in the RV Industry.

|Good morning all:|
Just wanted to let everyone to feel free to contact me with any questions on any of the molded Starcrusers from 1969 to the mid 70'S.
One thing that I'v found in the past is that some people feel the front dinet, when configured for sleeping, is short.
This is not the case. When converting for sleeping. move the back on the parelle links into the highest position and then fold it down forward and this makes a longer bed.
Past VP Engineering and designer of the Starcruiser

|I, too, have a mint 72 24' Starcraft that we are currently going through to restore to original condition. It seems to have everything intact and all the options that I can tell (excepts for self leveling system)|
4 KW Onan
The plastic is still on the wedgewood stainless stove, and neither the stove or the oven have ever been used. It appears to have had either a swamp cooler or an AC unit midship, but that was the only major thing that was missing.
We have a few broken metal parts but nothing serious. I would be interested in starting an exchange forum for those of us missing parts/needing info/having extra parts so that we can save some headaches in enjoying these things.
Anyone interested, contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org and I'll get the ball rolling...
|Re: Just bought 70 Starcraft MH-help!||Lester Miller||12-22-08|
Just noticed I gave the wrong color for the 28' unit, they were all Cream and brown.
This unit may be a 28' unit
Also these units were not painted, but were gelcoated, just like fiberglass boats.
Gool luck, and stay in touch.
Oh by the way, I have a 22' 1973, that is going to the MH/Rv museum next spring. The StarCruiser is still the only class A that was mass produced with a One Piece Body.

|Just bought the infamous almost a toyhauler 1970 Starcraft. It is Cream with Gold stripes but is only 19 feet. I need the windshield glass as well. I was told the Ford C series (600-850?) cab over glass is what they used. I hope so, I can get new one for $205 installed. Not sure if it is one side or both. Has anyone confirmed what the true donor truck was? It also looks a little like the early IH and MACK COE. Lester, are you still out there?|

A friend has a 22ft unit which seems to have been in the UK since the 70's. (It is on a 1972 UK plate)
It is now white and blue, very solid & mechanically good but the interior needs work.
Do you know of any others in the UK please?

|Re: Just bought 70 Starcraft MH-help!||Dave||5-28-10|
|I think Starcraft Starliners are great! I really liked the one on ebay a few months back (sold twice for around $6,500, so out of my league).|
Does anyone know of one for sale? I'm in AZ, but will travel for the right one. I'm really digging the flatnose Revcons, too, so I am looking for the first "right deal."
Any ideas? I am a big fan of shorter rvs with a separate shower, i.e. a dry bath. My wife is grossed out at the thought of getting the toilet in the shower with her.
Thanks! Dave firstname.lastname@example.org

|Re: Starcraft MH Information||jerry||12-17-08|
|Just spotted a starcraft for sale on the net, if the weather was better I would already be looking at it! I thought I had seen pics of every awesome MH in existence but I guess not. I own a rusted out Clark Cortez and have decided no more steel uni-bodied vehicles for me therefor... I have been looking at the fiberglass units available. I am wondering if a 1972 starcraft is built on a unique chassis rather than a standard dodge production (m300?)unit. Thanks!|

|Re: Starcraft MH Information||Lester Miller||12-18-08|
The Sraecruisers were built on a Dodge with a 318 CI or a optional 413.
Or on an International chassis with
an 345 CI engine.
What size do you have
Cream and Green = 22 foot
Cream and Gold = 24 foot
Cream and Green = 28 Foot
Any other questions feel free to call me.
|Ih 345 engine||sam||11-20-10|
|Lester.hi.can you tell me what size 4 barrel holly carburetor came on the ih 345-ci motor originally.thank you very much.sam|
|Re: Starcraft MH Information||Jerry||12-21-08|
|Lester, Have yet to buy this StarCruiser but it seems about 24 footer, but I am no expert. Definitely creme and brown but...it also has some unusual graphics on the upper half that look like giant flowing X's (on the creme portion) so maybe its been repainted. One clue to what model it may be is that it has two propane tank access openings, about knee high, on the right side, one forward of the main door, one aft. The cover doors are missing which has me concerned. still thinking about the purchase. because of a foot of snow has brought the Northwest to a halt (I am sure you would laught at us Oregonians a we attempt to drive in the snow) I have yet to see the interior. Its $1500 and awaits my thorough inspection. Any help or suggestions you can conjur up would be wonderful. My current motorhome is a 63 Clarke Cortez, a real rusbucket I should never have purchased. Wont make that mistake again! Jerry in Oregon|
|Re: Starcraft MH Information||Jerry||7-31-10|
|Lester, Thanks for your reply awhile back about the starcraft MH I was lookinat. I missed out on that one. I am now looking at a 1974 28 foot starcruiser that the owner says has a 440. Do you know the overall weight on this larger model? IS it probably a 413? Thanks for your help, Jerry|

|Mr Miller, I have a 1973 Starcraft 22ft with a 392 on an International chassis. I am trying to locate the original front driver and passenger seat. The passenger seat was a double or "buddy" seat that backed up to the dinette, the back rest shifted front to back so the dinette could seat four. Any ideas, or would you know where to get the details and measurements to fabricate one? thanks in advance, Jim|

|I am looking for an owner's manual for a 1973 Starcraft. I just bought it and I have a few questions. One question is that I don't see that there is any way to hook it up to shore power electric; there doesn't seem to be an electrical connector. Any help would be appreciated.|
|Re: Just bought 70 Starcraft MH-help!||Lester Miller||1-7-09|
If you have a 159" wheelbase, you have a 24' model, and the original color was cream and Gold.
If you have a rear pull-out double bed, you have a model 2410.
If you have double beds, and a bath with a tub-shower,you have a model 2440.
I am putting togather the story of how the Starcruiser was developed, and an reproduction of an oweners Manuel.
You have an International Chassis.
Keep in touch and feel to call:
As always Les Miller
