We dont have an RV yet we are just looking We are trying to determine if we should go with a gas or diesel engine We are also looking for used class A although we have thought about class C Any suggestions thanks Tom
I have a 30 ' Class A Pathfinder, it's powered by a Chevy 454. So far it's been excellent, gets 8 mpg. I know people with the same size diesel rig that get 12-14 mpg. It really boils down to what you can afford. Diesels fetch premium dollars..
Yes, generally speaking, diesel is a preference in the long haul. But if you sit a lot in parks and don't put that many miles on your mh, gas might be the way to go.
I would say if you can afford the extra price, go diesel.
Simply put, it's got more torque (great for going up long grades and/or driving in high-altitude areas), gets better mileage (not much, but still more), resale is higher and a diesel engine just gets broken-in at 100K miles so properly taken care of, you might not need to rebuild it until you rack up 900K or a million miles! Can't say that for gas.
But gas engines ARE better now -- deal with altitude better for one thing -- so don't rule out a gas engine...they're much more affordable, too.
But whatever you get, take care of it and it will last.
