RV Buy against Hire by Pat Moriarty

Hi
I and my wife are considering spending perhaps up to 1 year traveling around the US. We are taking retirement next year probably about April, and I was wondering if we should hire over such a long period, or alternately we may buy an rv and then resell when we have finished with it. Our start and end point would be Philadelphia as our son lives there.
I would appreciate any advice information etc that you could supply
