|Legal definition of RV by Bill|
I have a Nissan UD box truck (similar to a U-Haul, but in a cab-over design) which is rated for 22,000 lbs. It has a section in the front of the box converted into a sleeper.
A vehicle like this is expected to pull into weigh stations, and I'm supposed to maintain driver's logs, have a DOT physical, etc.
Can I declare my vehicle an RV and do away with all the federal trucking regulation BS? If so, what would be necessary? How exactly does the DOT/FCMSA/NHSA define an RV? WHat would I tell a highway patrolman who pulled me over for not stopping at a weigh station?
Thanks for any answers you can provide!
