Oh boy, I just purchased a school bus myself. I am told that I must contact my DMV and find out the minimum requirements for re-classification as an RV. Something like removing most of the seats and the special school bus lights, and installing a toilet, sink and bed. I am told that when I get it re-classified it will be easier to find insurance as an "RV". I'll keep you posted.
Maybe we should all get together and provide our own Insurance!
You had better think again if you think you can get converted school bus insurance from either one of them. I just checked last week and they no longer will cover a school bus!!
Just purchased a 1962 GMC bus conversion. Can't find ins. in the state of WA.!!! What is the problem with ins. a bus and is there anyone anywhere that does? I've even had a broker call the insurance commissioner of the state. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Please e-mail me. Thanks !!
If your GMC is a school bus (Does GMC make school buses?) then I am afraid I am at a loss. The only suggestion I would have for you is to call specifically a "surplus lines broker" for help.
If your GMC is NOT a school bus, and just a regular bus, give me a call at (800)521-2942 or email me at the address attached to this posting and I will give you a quote for Washington state insurance.
Good luck!

BECAUSE school buses are safer than the Greyhound type buses and are even roll tested. But most INSURANCE companys are assholes about it!

This is so frustrating. How on earth do those "housebus" people get insurance? They not only have schoolbuses, but they're torn apart with a "house" built onto it! Heck, all I want to do is finish off the interior, add furniture, and a woodstove!! I think I'm going to ask my priest if I can insure it as our church's "church bus". All I need to do is bring some friends to church a few times, and it would be the truth! (kind of). :-)
