I was urged by an RVr friend when I purchased my 89 Holiday Rambler in 97 to opt for extended warranty insurance. It was the best move I ever made, Alternator rebuilt, fridge rebuilt, replaced headers, rebuilt generator, just to mention a majority, I saved more than I paid for the coverage and have 18 or so months left. Any pros or cons out there?

Bill and any others who might disagree with me please don't take any of the following comments personally. My opinions have been known to be wrong. I can't remember when but surely there must have been at least once. :-) When considering insurance of ANY type ask yourself one question Why is the insurance company in business? If you think it is for your benefit think again. They are in business to make a profit, pure and simple. The way they make a profit is to take in more than they pay out. And they have overhead such as agents, clerical staff, office space, advertisement, and don't forget the lobbiest who see to it that legislation favorable to their business gets passed. Their basic source of income is premiums paid by suckers like you and me. Insurance is nothing more than a numbers racket, they've been at it long enough to know what the odds are and adjust the premiums accordingly. So how do we beat the the racket? Basically we self insure. True, eventually we'll probably suffer a big loss but over the long haul we'll come out ahead if we invest the "premiums" and use it to cover our losses. Do I carry insurance? Only on those risks that I am unwilling to assume. With the "Ambulance Chasing Lawyers" and "Sob Sister Jurors" we have in our society today it would take some mighty deep pockets to carry your own liability. So how about the extended warranty insurance on an RV. Let us realize one thing the RV market is VERY competitive and most factory made RV's are designed to look good until the ink on the contract starts to dry. How can a person protect themselves from shoddy RVs? First, do your homework, find out whose product is good and whose is not. Then convert a bus into an RV. They are safer, more comfortable, more durable and no more expensive. I'll be happy to discuss this further off the BB if anyone cares to.
