FIRST TIME BUYER OF A TRAVEL
TRAILOR. I HAVE IT PARKED IN
A CAMPGROUND. MY INSURANCE
COMPANY TELLS ME I NEED
INSURANCE LIKE IT IS A MOBILE
HOME. THE QUOTE I RECEIVED
WAS ALMOST AS MUCH AS MY HOME
OWNERS INSURANCE. IF ANYONE
CAN TELL ME WHAT I NEED I'D BE
GRATEFUL.
THANKS.
What u need probably depends on where u are. If u are only looking for liability and if u were in CA, the liability on the vehicle u tow the trailer with extends to the trailer; you therefore would need no additional insurance for the trailer. Coll. & Comp would be a different matter. I would have to question advise that it needs insurance comparable to that of a mobile home; two different animals. I would suggest that you check into Allstate or Good Sam's National General, a subsidiary of GM.

I recently bought a 24 foot mallard travel trailer for 4300. I have experience driving trailers in the past. I have a good driving record and credit history. I planned to drive less than a 1000 miles a year. I planned to store the camper in a fenced storage facility for campers. My zip code is 66611. My auto insurance will cover the liabilty of the camper but I wanted insurance for hail, storms, collusion, theft. Can anyone give me a quote.

Good Sams i good but not the cheapest. Allstate is a BAD choice. Allstate is not a good company to do business with at all for any insurance. I had a claim and after they got finished they dropped the claim from 9200 to 2700. STAY AWAY FROM ALLSTATE. They will promise you whatever you like even their program of call your agent if you havce problems with their adjusters, which is another farce. Our agent said too bad.
The best company and they even beat Good Sams is Alexander and Alexander in Michigan. You can call Roslyn at 800-782-9885 and ask for a quote. I know they are by far the cheapest I have found. But whatever you do, remember ALLSTATE does not pay claims as they promise and you need to stay as far away from them as you can.
DEAR SIRS:

Dave, (and others)
I know I have actually been speaking to you for sometime now, so you must have been steered in the right direction by Roslyn I assume. However, Alexander & Alexander is now known as "RV Alliance America" and can be reached at (800) 521-2942. You can also email me at info@rvaa.com for assistance. This is still the program Alexander & Alexander ran, but the name changed and it has actually been improved!
Good luck!

Alstate Insurance is natorious for their poor service. To date, they are involved in a Class Action suit for bilking homeowners out of hundreds of dollars when they placed claims in earth quakes ect. Not a good company to do business. I think the best thing is word of mouth and your past experience with what ever insurer you've dealt with.
