I have a school bus I am in the process of converting. As a school bus, GMAC - a.k.a. Good Sam - is the only company I could find to cover me. Originally they quoted me $340/6 mo. But, they upped that to over $400 when they realized that my personal auto limits were 40k/40k, then it went up to $488/60 when they told me that my wife's fender bender from June, 2000 increased my premium.
So, I am looking for another carrier, but am told by most that I must finish the conversion, then show proof that the vehicle is registered and titled as an RV. My county's Texas tax office says that I must finish the conversion and then bring in pictures so they can change the reg & title.
I'd love to hear of any other insurers who will cover a personal school bus for a better price.
My skoolie RV is insured for liability only with Allstate at reasonable cost. Automobile has to be insured with Allstate as well, and they recently went way up on the auto premium... at what I consider to be unreasonable cost. Some agents act like they cant insure a conversion vehicle, just tell em upfront you have a friend (like me!)with an allstate policy... that way, they cant easily lie to you.
