Hi,
My dad recently purchased a 1993 Dodge Dakota Scotty foot Pioneer Model, which has 18,000 miles and what seems to be 4 of the 6 original tires. It currently has 4 XCH4 All Season Micheline which have dry rotted.
These are not made any more and a gentleman at Sears told Dad that they are now making the 16, 17, & 18 inch tires. There is not enough clearance to increase to a P225 I have asked, which would have added three forths inch onto the tire size.
He is looking for replacement tires and we are running into road blocks. I called Tire Rack and a local dealer but have not had any luck yet. Everyone says that they will look into it and get back to me.
I will tell you all that I know about this.
It has 3 axles, rear is a tag axle. The capacity of the axles are: 2800, 3800, 4800, not sure of the order except that the rear should be 2800, I would guess that the 4800 should be the front since that's where the motor is but I am no expert.
On the tag on the door it states P215 r75 15 and that's it. However, it has 4 Micheline Radial XCH4 All Season Tires.
Also Dad said it is a P215 r75 15 Load Range D LRD with Highway Tread HT.
There is paperwork that was inside the motorhome which contains a test report from a magazine which states that this motorhome was shipped from the factory with a Load Range C tire.
That led Dad to questioning what tires should be on this. I have been told that this needs to have a D or 8 ply tire and not the 6 ply which is the C, because of the load capacity.
I've certainly learned a lot about tires lately.
Furthermore the vehicle weighs 5750 which is extremely light for a motorhome. Dad mentioned a 2086 lb tire along in our discussions about this, it might be printed on one of them but I can't swear to it.
Do any of you have suggestions for me on replacements? I have tried calling Micheline and Goodyear and have not had the success.
Thanks for any help on this,
Cathy
ps I was further told that the C is a 1700 lb or so and the D was in the 2,000 lb range. |
