I love the layout of our first, used class c and though it's not our 'dream' motorhome, it's fairly close. We didn't look at any with slideouts when we went shopping because they seemed to be twice as expensive as ones without, and since this was our first RV, we didn't want to jump into 'too much' in case we didn't use it as much as they thought we would.
Well, we use it all the time and don't see any end in sight, so we're considering getting what we want for either our next motorhome...or maybe just making some changes to this one.
The major thing we'd like to upgrade to is a slideout for more floorspace (there are six of us). I remember months ago just poking around and finding a website for a company that could add a slideout to a motorhome...but of course now that I'd like to find it again, I can't.
Has anyone added a slideout to a motorhome before? I'd like to see what other folks have done to get their 'dream' motorhome. Adding a slideout would be fabulous for us since I've found it impossible so far to find a floorplan in a new model that I like as well as the one we have. It's just a matter of elbow room.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions, stories, advice, or.....that you can give me on this!
I have an older Class C also. Being older I am less shy about trying things. I considered a slide out but found the price a bit much. Instead I'm trying to design a fold down system, something like a tent trailer I suppose. My plan is to build a platform on the back of the RV that will be hinged on the bottom and will drop down the assist of a small winch. There will be a door put in the back wall to allow access. It can either be a patio/deck area, or have canvas walls and awning to make it into an enclosed room. My brother thought instead of canvas walls like a tent, I might just build four walls on hinges that fold in and lock out with a canvas ceiling. Am still in the planning stages, like whether to have legs or leveling jacks. No, it wouldn't be as easy as a slide out, but much less expensive. How it would look when locked up against the trailer would be completely up to how much work you'd want to do to it.
Used to be a place in AZ. that would do that conversaion. as I recall, the cost was in the 7k area, thay (did) have a ad in the better rv type mags, good luck, Vance
I have a 30ft Traveel Trailer and would like to make a slide out where the bunks are. Is is possible? And who does this type of conversion near New York?
There is a site on the web called chads projects he has put a slide out in a fith wheeler the hardest part seems to buy the sliding mechanism if you have any luck finding a company who can supply the mechanism e mail it would be great
Hi. John. Have been searching the web for slide outs for a diy project like you did in 07. No answers for you. Am hoping you found some where that sells slide out accessories. I live in Devon. Just wondered how you got on. regards Nick
