Axle upgrade Roman Hintz 6-18-05
What does it take to get a rear axle upgrade on a '86 Toyota RV? How
much cost, how much work?
What happens when an axle brakes? Does the wheel come flying off or are you just dismobilized?
Re: Axle upgrade Ron Dittmer 12-11-06
In 1995 I had the rear axle upgrade done on my 1983 Toyota Mirage RV. The parts were for a 1995 dual rear wheel pickup, issued free from Toyota, a $3000 value, delivered free to a shop of my choice. I had to pay for the installation, around $800. The parts included the rear brakes, rims, just about everything. The only thing lacking was the parking brake cable needing a bracket to retro-fit, and new tires. It made a tremendous improvement in handling the RV.

Just wondering if you have found anything out? I just got a 78 toy motorhome with the 5 lug axle. It is only 16.5 feet.
Re: Axle upgrade Alex 7-16-05
I just had a bearing failure in my '84 toyota based motorhome and the left duals left the vehicle. The worst part was loading it on a trailer (on only three corners) to get it back home from 3 hours away.

Currently looking for a true dual rear setup for my motorhome :(

Thanks,
Alex
