We are brand new (still have the shine on!) to RV's. I stepped in side the first one last week!! Awsome! Anyway, I have found one for sale for $3,000 and it's a Winnebego 1985 Itasca. Is this a good deal?? I'm going to have to trave a good distance to get it. The man says it is all great except it has a problem with stalling out after it warms up some. Anyone have any suggestions?? I really want this but can't afford much more than this to fix it up.
Rhonda, To get an idea what the motorhome is worth, you can go to www.nadaguides.com and follow the instructions for finding the value that they place on the Itasca model you mentioned. Sounds like a fair deal for the year mentioned. The stalling problem may be a carburetor or other fuel related problem like vapor lock. This may be a problem trying to drive it home. Look for other problems the seller may not mention leaky roof (look for evidence sush as water stains, sagging ceiling panels, or rotted or soft wall panels) refrigerators and air conditioners that don't work, and soft or spongey floors. Check to make sure that the exhaust system is ok and not bailing wired up, brakes work well, transmission shifts well, and tires are not dry rotted (a common and expensive item). These things would be my concerns, as they would drive up the final cost of making this unit road safe and enjoyable. Good luck and I hope you find this to be a real bargin, as there are some of those out there. Most of us were green as a gourd about these things until we learned the hard way, without seeking others advice and experiences.Good luck and Happy camping, Stan in Michigan |
