I had an 89 Toyota Odyssey. From what I've heard on the Yahoo Toyota Motorhome discussion group, Toyota's are not suited to pull anything at all. They deliver superb fuel economy with a small engine and a modest frame, but are maxxed out as to what they carry already. Beware. You could snap an axel, bend a frame or smoke a transmission by trying.
Hi I had a 1990 toyota Winnebago and i had UHaul install a hitch which i used to haul a lite weight 3 bike motorcycle trailer which was fine although the other message is probably correct i felt i could get away with towing what i had in mind and it worked fine with out structual damage but if you look under your motorhome you will see the frame has already been extended a few feet and it looks pretty fragile at that. good luck
My brother is a licensed mechanic and when I had the odessey v6 with power boost he told me not to pull anything with it even though it is dually. They are not suited to towing. He's never owned anything but a Toyota so he knows a lot about them
I would like to purchase a 20-22' 1988-1992 toyota motorhome, but my wife feels they are top heavy and possibly will roll over in a strong cross wind or emergency maneuver (such as a quick lane change). Being an engineer, I doubt seriously this could happen except for the most extreme and right set of circumstances. Does anyone have any experience or knowledge of this type of occurrence? If I had an idea of the typical weight of one of these units, and better still if I had a weight distribution on the axles, I can calculate what type of wind speed it would take to push one over.
Also, if anyone has a unit that they might be selling in about 6 to 9 months, I would appreciate you contacting me. Thanks to all and happy trails.
