Fuel problems GW Smith 8-23-04
I have a 1986 LaSharo with the 2.2 Renault. It is in good shape.58,000 miles. I was driving it the other day and it stopped after I hit a puddle. I put a new distributer cap on it and now it starts and runs a few seconds and quits. I put a new fuel filter on it and it did not help. I have good spark, I donot know how to test this fuelpump as it seems to only come o when the motor is running. What gives?

WE HAD OUR 86 LASHARO QUIT ON US, TOOK IT
TO THE CLOSEST SHOP WE COULD FIND AND DISCOVERED A BAD GROUND ON THE FUEL PUMP (UNDER CHASSIS DRIVER SIDE). THE PUMP ACTUALLY GROUNDS VIA A WIRE WHICH RUNS BACK UP TO THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. WE DISCONNECTED THIS ONE AND RAN A NEW SHORT JUMPER GROUND RIGHT TO THE FRAME BESIDE PUMP - IT FIRED RIGHT UP AND HAS NOT HAD THAT TROUBLE AGAIN...GOOD LUCK
