Am interested in a small RV (2 people) for limited touring. Can you tell me pros and cons on 1990 Lesharo? (I know, they are no hotrods). Thank you all.
I had a 1988 model. Generally I liked the rig. It had the gas Renault engine in it. I was told to stay away from the diesel model as it had a lot of porblems. It was underpowered but I didn't find that to be a real problem. In the Adirondacks I could climb those hills at about 40 mph; sometimes having to shift down. The unit was 12 years old when I got it, and it needed a lot of work which was not apparent at the time I got it. We never used the shower. It seemed too inconvenient. We used the campground facilities. I came close to ruining the engine when the catalytic converter fell apart internally and blocked the exhaust. The unit seemed to me to be cheaply made like most Winnebago products. They seem to be built by cost accountants rather than engineers. I most liked the size, and the fact it would park anywhere.
We've got a Renault gas engine Phasar Itasca, again winnebego... and love the way it handles. Getting repairs for renault engines is difficult and for that reason alone I would not advise it unless you live near the garage in portland that does good work on them. There is one parts place in the midwest that generally has parts, but they are about triple in cost of the equivalent part for a regular car.
I am looking at an '88 LeSharo that has 88,000 miles on it. The man is asking $4,500.00 I don't know how to book it. It looks preetty used, but not in bad shape.. He has declined me running it down the freeway for a distance to check it for gas milage or mechenanical issues. Is there a place to book it?
