Thinking of buying a1979 Dodge 'Lindy'... California_Gurrl 2-13-14
Hi folks...

I am new to this forum. I was online looking for info on this 1979 'Lindy'...and I landed here.

I have owned RVs and campers before....the last being. Toyota Odyssey with the 22RE engine..(which I should never have and learn)....and a while back I had a Dodge truck with an oversized cabover camper on back...truck had that slant-six engine that ran forever!).

But until I looked at this vehicle...I had never heard of the Lindy. Its been well maintained for a 35 ysar old vehicle. It has the Dodge 318 engine..V-8 I believe...started right up.....sounded strong....excellent tires...but has duel tires in back which surprised me for its a shorter length of the camper....I wondee how that impacts the already low mpg. I wondered how I would change those back inside tires iif I got a flat.

The body was in decent shalpe....interior not bad at all. Water pump not working....he said je never used fridge.....has propane tank but don't know....or recall if he said he uaed ir for stove or anything else......air conditioning in cab not overhead air. Some signs of leakimg around front hatch...he said he patched it...hatch over shower missing...backside roof ladder sheared off halfway up......nice skzed luggage rack on top.....could not look up top because of broken ladder.

Overall not in bad shape...he wants no less than 2000.00 for it.....sitting for sale for severl months now....has had lookers but he won't accept tje offers so far.
I am considering making him an offer...but wanted to researh a bit....worried the cost of repairs/parts may be high due to age and not as plentiful supply of this model. Also wondering if these vwhicles had decent mechanical reliability. He said he owned it 20 years and never had problems.

Oh...amd its an.automatic with 98,000 miles on it.

Has anybody owned one of these? Can you give me any info on it...or address any of my concerns. Is the guy asking too much for it? Did this model have any weak points mechanically?
What should I expect to focus on into any weak points....what should I aak him about?

Pros vs cons?

I appreciate any replies....not much online about the Lindy.

Dual tires: Means lower rear gear ratio and lower fuel economy, will change from 12 to 11.5 for example.
Changing inside means jacking on spring and removing outside then inside. Not a big deal, just a little extra work.

98,000 is a lot for a motor home, any water damage is bad bad bad.

"I don't use the fridge" means it doesn't work. $1500.00 to repair or replace. Fridge not working lowers value of unit to what scrap yard will pay for it. Where I am, set it on fire and send the steel to the scrap yard for $250. Assembled and intact we pay $250 to get them hauled away.

Propane system will need to be checked before use. Furnaces from this era are prone to rotten or cracked heat exchangers. Mind you any furnace over 5 years old should be safety checked before use.

If you are going to have to pay to fix the roof etc, run away. If you are tolerant of old quirks and can do your old handymaning maybe a good deal.
