I am planning to purchase one of two motor homes can some tell which is the best buy?
1990 dolphin with 40,000 miles for $6,500.00
1993 Winnebago with 46,000 miles for $9,000.00
Also, which Toyota motor home manufacturer built the best coach? Seems like all the Dolphins and Odyssey models have water damage or wood rot. Which units have tallest ceiling, I am 6'2" and need ceilin height. thanks
As far as I'm concerned, Winnebago Industries (Winnebago and Itasca brands) built BY FAR the best Toyota chassis motor homes. They had a HUGE percent of the market as well AND you can still get parts for them. Thaat's not to say there aren't some dogs out there--and they're 15 years old or more at this point. Couple of hints: make sure you get a 6 cyl. engine. I'm thinking all or nearly all Bago and Itasca had these but some Toyota chassis had a 4 cyl.--just not enough power. Also, the later ones had a taller and deeper cab-over for more bunk room. There were a few strange floorplans. To my mind, the one with the rear bath, both couch and dinette makes the most sense for most people. But the big thing is that Winnebago and Itasca (they're basically identical) were made better, were made by a company that's still around, and were made by a company that has a great parts system. Parts aren't cheap but you can get them and they can tell you what you need.
