V730 Upgrade Gary 7-5-99
Any of you Bus Nuts out
there know anything about
swapping out the 2 speed VH
for a V730 into a '63 GMC
4519(same bus in the movie
Speed and the new Porche
Boxster TV ad) with a 6V71N? I have agood source for various year
V730's that were primarily in
RTS's from early '80's to '94.
Any input would be great. If
someone needs a V730, let me
know...

I also have a 4519 transit, and according to Mike Meloche at Detroit Diesel, a v730 is the ONLY auto trans you can upgrade with in this bus

I have the same project to do I have a 1976 4523 and a v730. The bulkhead needs to be cut and reinforced by the drive shaft. Near as I can tell there are two v730's one is a v7303 in has a 1.04 overdrive the same as a vh2 so top speed whould be the same. The v730 has a .875 overdrive this changes top speed a lot. I have a formula to figure speed. first take RPMS x overdrive take that RPM run formula. It's tire height x RPM divided by gear ratio x 336 equals speed my email is sewcray@pivot.net let me know how you make out. Bob
