6-71 engine torque rating? gear splitter? W espy 7-29-99
I'd like to put a gear splitter in my "60 4104 bus.
Vendor wants to kmow what the maximum torque of the 6-71 supercharged engine is. can someone here provide an answer? The maintanance manual only shows horsepower - 43.3 SAE rating.

Has anyone put a gear splitter in a 4-spped manual transmission bus?
Re: 6-71 engine torque rating? gear splitter? FAST FRED 7-30-99
YOU CANT DO IT ! The reason the engine is at an angle across the rear of the coach is to have a big enough drive shaft to stay connected going over bumps,, the gear splitters take up drives shaft space, also the torque your 6-71 is WAY over what the RV stuff is rated for .DD has a web site .
I know of no one who has ever put a 2 speed rear in an 04 either.

FAST FRED

the only thing avaliable to split the gearing is a hydroshift trans. assy, its an overdrive type that fits on front of special trans and in the bellhouseing. it was factory installed in some 4104's. I have one in mine and with a 3:55 rear at 65 mph RPM is 1650, good luck at finding one.
