Anyone know if the mci mc 12 for $15,000 and 1 million miles sounds like a good deal or not? Any idea about possible benefits or problems with the mc 12?

We just got 2 of these 12's in our fleet. Main problem is the 6v92DDEC. I prefer the old 6v92 in the 1989 Special Edition MCI MC9 THAT'S YOUR WORKHORSE. These 1989 9's I got them for $16,000.00 back in December 2004 both w/reliabilt 6v92's and 7 speed stick manual trans. They Still running great in a200 miles way from Guatemala City to El Salvador.
Good Luck

All of the MC-12's were in service with Greyhound.

Greyhound prevailed upon MCI to make a better alternative for a route car. The 96A/C and 102A/C's were not working out very well for them.

Frankly I am surprised so many of the -12's have gone up for sale since the G-model has been a disaster for Greyhound.

The -12 is an updated -9 with better cooling. Some even have Series 50 or 60 power.

Like the -9, the -12 was put together with stainless steel throughout.

The -12's are going to be in as good or better condition than any of the -7's, -8's, or -9's that are out in the marketplace. And since most of the -7's, a lot of the -8's, and some of the -9's were in service with Greyhound, the miles really shouldn't be much of a concern. After all, most of those older coaches still have a lot of life left in them.

Since the -12 was an updated version of the -9, which was an updated version of the -8, which was an updated version of the -7, parts and service is readily available from MCI.

If the coach you are looking at isn't all beaten up and the power package is in decent condition the price sounds like a pretty good deal.

Good luck.

As a bus enthusiast, I am a sort of an outsider looking in when it comes to commenting on MCI's MC12 bus model. However, I do poceses some knowledge on Greyhound's oldest coach. The MC12 has a proven record since coming on to the intrastate bus scene. Greyhound has recycled a number of its older MC12's, which were slated for retirement, for use as charter bus assignments. These coaches use the letter C in front of their original fleet numbers. They wear the new colors of Greyhound and have the words, CHARTER SERVICES applied to the rear lower side of the bus.
