GMC 4905 engine generator / batteries Keith 7-25-05
Hi all: you'll find this message elsewhere too. 4905 Generator only puts out 18 volts on a test, new batteries going dead even when not turned on, and not hooked to the house. voltage regulator LOOKs new, but I did not install so won't bet on it. Having batteries checked out, but I have never worked on a 8v-71 generator. Best to get the beasty running and take to a shop? any way to hook up two 12 volt alternators to those batteries? Yes I know batteries can be bad even if new....thanks all, I'm ready for the advice....Keith

Sounds like you have bad diodes,
I got rid of mine and installed a Delco 100 amp alternator and switched to 12 volts, haven't had any problem since.

I realize this message was 2 years ago but maybe someone else will benefit.
