I've got one for sale. Recently removed from a "57" Highway Post Office Mail Bus from Kent Ohio. Twin Coach Company - Frank and William Fageol.
Horizontal Staight Eight, Deisel. A little over one and a half feet tall. Roughly 4'x 4'. Has Allison 5 speed manual still attached. Engine plate still present. Best offer accepted. E-Mail edbutchas@aol.com

Does the Leyland work? I have a 65 Highway post office that I am using as a motorhomr. The block just cracked.

My father moved the family out to Oregon from Chicago in 1979 and it was started all the time. After he past away it was started once or twice a year, but for the last 6 years has not been turned over. I am sure it would again with the right person. I've seen an old deisel fire up after sitting for 20 years. These old pancakes are a challenge to find sometimes. Let me know if your interested in taking it off my hands. My e-mail is edbutchas@yahoo.com leave me your phone number and where you are located...

I'm pretty sure that if you take a good look at that engine, you'll find that it's got 6 cylinders, not 8. I had a 57 Twin Coach HPO from 1972 until I gave it away around 1983 or so. With a friend's help, we replaced the bearings, valves, and gaskets. I took that on a road trip from Maine to LA, SF, then back down through ElPaso on the way back to Maine. (It was November and there were big snows from the Panhandle north.) It was definitely 6 cyls. They are big ones, though. The engine displaced 670 something cubic inches. Westbound, I stopped in North Little Rock to see the rest of the HPO's that belonged to Intercity Transportation of Missouri. There were some 35' Twin Coaches and some 40' tandem rear Crowns. The Crowns had Cummins engines.

Wow its been a long time since I checked this site... Yeah I'm sure its eight. Engine is sitting open and easy to count. lol. Also, I had a nice conversation some years ago with the son of the actual company owner (Fageol Leyland) He lives in Cathedral City California. We chatted in depth about the thing.

I feel a little foolish... When looking at it this morning, I found out that it is in fact a 6 Cyl.
I was looking at the fuel inlet pipes when I first gazed upon it. It was while cleaning off the engine plate that I saw that it was truly in fact a 6.
