Mini bus Kathy 8-6-01
We are looking for a mini
maybe something like a
14 passenger to convert into
a RV. Does anybody know of
any CHEAP ones out there?
We live in the Northeast part
of the country.
Thanks for any help.

Re: mini bus FAST FRED 8-13-01
Why bother ???,
if you go purchase a used Superior Motorhome , its a custom body , built strong and as well as any bus , by the Superior BUS CO , that can take a roll over ect with the best of the coaches.
AS this finished product is a great motorhome , just contact the FMCA "superior club " and buy a unit that has been owned and upgraded by an enthusiast.

Should cost about $10,000 for a fine finished unit with great road manners and lots of cheap parts at NAPA .

Even if you bought it and dropped $4000 into a factory new engine , and $1000 into a new rebuilt tranny , the unit would still cost less than just a DD rebuild.

The interiors ARE dark , mahogany formica was the rage in the early 70's but paint , or a re-cover with new formica would do fine.

Just thimking out loud.

Again, I have to agree, at least in part, with FF.

Why bother trying to convert a Type 'A' or 'B' school bus. Mechanically, they are identical with small Class 'A' or 'C' motorhomes. Part of the reason why one would want to convert a bus is to be able to utilize the heavier running gear found in the bigger buses.

For the most part, most of the Type 'A' and 'B' buses are nearly to the GVWR before anything it put inside of them. Because they are so "full", they tend to have poor driving characteristics and they tend to wear out running gear faster then their larger cousins.

Also because the Type 'A' and 'B' buses are built so close to the ground the underside area is not very usable for underside storage. By the time you put in the water and sewer tanks, the plumbing, and any gas system for cooking you will have pretty much filled all of the space up. You will have next to no space available for things like a place to put lawn chairs or a gen set unless you stack it on the roof, which is a bad idea. The small buses tend to be top heavy already.

Again, as FF said, why bother.

Good luck and happy trails.
