8v71 Cost to rebuild Howard 1-10-05
I am looking at an MC-9 for conversion. Engine is very tired and needs a rebuild. In Southern Calif what would be the average price to have this professionally done?
Which is better ? Out of tray or in ?

The difference between a rebuild and an overhaul. Rebuild is where you replace everything inside the engine with new. Overhaul is where you only replace what is warn out. If you want the engine to last 300,000 miles, then rebuild it. If you only need maybe 125,000 miles then overhaul it. That's what I did. The parts aren't that expensive, but the labor is. A complete rebuild would cost about $12,000 at a Detroit Diesel dealer. Check out Delaney and Ahlf in Bakersfield. Good Luck, TomC

Hi -

I have a 1972 Flexible Bus with a fish bowl front end. I don’t need the bus, just the motor. I'm in need of an 871 Detroit with a 2-speed automatic, and overdrive, Left hand pull, 45 degree cradle. Sure could use your help.
Thanks for any assistance you can give me.

Re: 8v71 Cost to rebuild Dell 6-11-08
What would be the cost of overhauling a DDC 8V71 in an 83 MCI (MC9) coach used as a church bus. I am also concerned with the oil usage! Any suggestions? I am in the Huntsville, AL area, anyone know of any mechanics in the area. Also, what are some compatible engines and transmissions for this model.
