MCI Buy from West Coast or East ??? Bill 10-21-04
I have been watching the web for the usual MCIs for sale. 1980 to 89 MC-9, MC-8, 96A3 or 102A3s. Will be a conversion ( a LONG term project /hobby)

Living in Southern California desert I constantly get the “don’t buy anything from the East coast or the North”. The rust and corrosion thing. However, it seems most rolling stock for sale is located in those areas.

ABC bus sales in LA for instance has much newer coaches and much more $$$$ than I want to spend.

Sawyers Bus Sales and several other places I found have a large inventory at pretty good prices but... they are on the East coast
So I need some feedback, is the West Coast VS. East or North that big of a determining factor in what or where I buy? With so much stainless steel being used should I be more concerned with drive train etc. than where ever the bus comes from?

Thanks
Bill

I would purchase a bus from the East coast or South if I was able to check the coach out in detail and see the kind of rust or corrosion I was dealing with. I have seen serious rust buckets and then some that spent their entire service life and are in pretty good shape. So, for the money saved, I would wait, get sawyer bus to watch for a "rust free" coach and work a deal to fly back on Jet blue and pick it up.

Good luck!

I know what you are going through looking for a GOOD RUST free unit. I looked for a couple years for a good one. Lots of rust on most all the ones from the Eastern area. I found one here in Southern Cal. I have a 1980 MCI 9 with a 871, 4 speed with 47,381 miles on it. I have striped the insides and it is ready for conversion. I must sale it due to a health problem. If you would be interested, you can e-mail me for more information. It is in great shape with 90 % rubber. Good luck..............
Thanks Henry

We recently purchased a 1994 MCI 102D from Easters Bus Sales in Virginia. I looked at several coaches and found this one to be 99% rust and corrosion free. WE have had to fix a number of small items but are now finding this to be an excellent coach. One must really be willing to either hire a consultant who has experience with buses or know what they are looking for themselves. Lots of junk out there and some good stuff.
