Powering Up 6v92 TA DDEC James Huskins 3-29-04
I'm generally happy with my nearly converted 87 Flex Metro, but it could certainly stand more power. The engine is rated at 300 hp, but it climbs like a dog.

Do any of you have experience with upping the performance of these engines. Apparently it's not as simple as changing the injectors on a mechanically controlled engine.

This engine has less than 30k miles on a major overhaul.

Thanks,

Jim Huskins

Hey....

top power I've seen in a bus 6v92 is 330 hp.. most climb like a dog anyway :\.. NC.. your in smokies ??? I'd say get used to it, since the trans is only rated for 275 hp.. most engines are limited to 277hp for that reason :(... I've heard you can talk nice to the detroit dealer and get them to upgrade the computer to output more power.... but that is probably an emissions violation :\

Hey
You said the engine was recently overhauled, as a mechanical engine i would suggest maybe take a good look at your govenor. Incorrect govenor gap can make your engine slugish and climb like a dog. 692's are a good pulling engine due to alot torque, my suggestion is find someone that knows detroits well and get them to set your govenor up.
Hope it helps, keep us posted on how u go, all the best

Cheers, Tom

Do a search for Stewart & Stevenson. They are one of the largest Detroit Diesel distributors in the nation. Go to one of their distributors that handle heavy duty trucks and you will get truly expert and honest advice.
