|GM 4106 Automatic Conversion||David G||3-14-03|
Friend has 1964 GMC 4106 with 4 speed. They would like to change it to an automatic. What would that take? What transmission would fit? Who could / would do that type of work? How much money would it take? Where would we find a transmission? Any value for the old tranney? The rest of the coach is just what they want. But two problems. A) wife not comfortable driving stick. B) Reverse is real fast. Storage location requires very tight finagle backwards into spot. This reverse requires major clutch slip/chatter and fast back-up. Auto would solve this problem.

One company in AZ called Sun Valley can do it for about $2500.oo Old tranny is not really s money maker but I would hold it and see if anyone might be interested in it!
Call them at 602-253-1006 ask for TIM
He is a old dog mechanic and knows his way around very well!

You have the choice of an Allison V730 or V740. These both have V-drive, nothing else will work.
Look in my Backflip:
The folks at the link named Bernhard power train conversions may be able to tell you more.
Ask this question at the GMB Busnuts group at Yahoo, and at the Busconversions message board. Links to both in the Message board directory at Backflip.

Sun Valley is a scam. Do not patronize. You'll regret it.
