Frame rot on my 23' airstream can you help Glenn 2-12-05
Hello,
I have a 1974 23' Airstream Land Yacht that has been sitting for awhile. I have just noticed that the frame rails in the rear are rusted through and up at the front neer the tounge vee is as well starting to rust. This trailer is absolutly perfect inside and out with no defects and all original down to the original shower curtain. It may have been used 5 times. Can this frame be replaced, and if so do you know the $ ammount, and who could do this????Please any help would be great,I am in PA.!!!! Glenn

Glenn,

It all depends upon where the frame rot is located.
Most of the time it is the outriggers that have rotted. In that case new ones can be welded to the main frame. It is a lot of work if you do it yourself.
First of all, what year is your Airstream?
Can you take digital pictures of the area affected?
You can also go to www.airstreamforums.com
There is usually good advice from other Airstream owners and a few dealers as well. As with any advice, investigate it before attempting it.
If you need anything else I have been an enthusiaist for over 22 years. I have had Airstreams as well as Argosys. You can reach me at: loupatterson@wowway.com

I have a '59 Airstream that I took down to the frame and had rust in the front and the back of the frame where the frame came out from the belly skin. Since I took it down to that point I rebuilt most everything as I put it back together, this took about a year. As for your trailer how bad is the rot, do you have a belly skin, and how accesible is the area?
