Opinion: Western Horizons RV Membership is the WORST Jay 12-29-04
Western Horizon RV Membership is the worst membership ever. The parks are horrible, oh yeah and watch out for the hidden fees. The other parks included in the membership are some of worst and most expensive parks I ever been to. So check out other memberships before you get suckered into Western Horizon.
Re: Opinion: Western Horizons RV Membership is the WORST Connie 8-12-08
My husband and I are very disappointed in WHR. We have been to two of the older parks (Ramona Canyon & Desert Pools) and a newer one, Charleston Peak. The older ones were run-down and just didn't feel like a "resort". Charleston is the nicest of the three and you do get a feeling of being in a "resort". With all the money collected by WHR, one would think they would do something about the old run-down buildings and swampy ponds, which are not attractive at all. Membership owners expect something a little more up-scale than this when they pay memberships. We are selling ours to anyone who wants it and I am sure we will probably have to give it away to get rid of it. What a mistake buying into this company. We feel like we made the biggest mistake ever when we gave WHR our money.
Re: Opinion: Western Horizons RV Membership is the WORST Maggie 9-16-08
Ever since Western Horizons took over Allegany Mountain Resort in NY, all they have done is take our ammenities away one by one. They want us members to maintain the park in exchange for dues. You would end up making about.24/ hour. They have no idea what customer service is when you call either. They don't take care of their employees, so you have a bunch of ticked off workers with attitudes. I could go on and on.
Re: Opinion: Western Horizons RV Membership is the WORST JAna 11-5-08
I am sorry to hear some of these comments i have been a western horizon member since 1998 and we love every park we have been to yes the fee for electric has gone up but so has the price of everything. when we started the had only ten parks now they have over twenty romona canyon is all new because of the fires but all resorts that i have seen are fun with planned activities and dinners and lunches for cheap the lokken family is doing a great job and we are very happy with everything they hae done and i am sure they will do even more happy travels.

We got ripped off for 5000.00 because spouse got long term illness after one time. Sales person, manager and owner had promised us some refund if serious illness occured.
Contacted--refused to talk to us and now blacklisted.
DO NOT BUY WESTERN HORIZONS FOR ANY REASON.
Re: Opinion: Western Horizons RV Membership is the WORST Myrna 3-24-08
I totally agree! Western Horizons IS THE WORST. They're also losing resorts. Check it out! There are no resorts in Texas anymore. They do not return phone calls, nor do they answer letters. I only hear from them when they want yearly dues. Promises with no follow through!

Re: Opinion: Western Horizons RV Membership is the WORST Kirk 11-22-05
Hmmm, I'm surprised to hear that. I wonder if there are just different standards for different areas of the country. The cost of the parks once you have a membership is only $6 per night, which is far from the most expensive I have seen. The parks aren't like golf courses with perfect grass and paved everything, but that type of thing is for old fogeys that drive their home and can't get around otherwise. Our kids absolutely love the things they include at their parks and we can't wait to go and visit more of them as we venture out more. As for the hidden fees, the only thing I have seen is that they have additional fees for increased costs for electricity of $1 per night. I have to admit I was a little taken back by that, but still $1 per night doesn't seem too bad in the whole scheme of things.
As for locations, there are several that are near places I would like to go to, although the park itself would not be my choice of destination. All too many private parks are right off the highway, have too few of trees, have no separation between the sights, and little real scenery to look at. I have to admit though, that there is only two of them I have stayed at for a couple of nights. The closest to us we have a lot of fun at and return every year, at least once.
Jay, if you are still around, maybe you could be more specific on what you have experienced and we can speak to the management about it.
Re: Opinion: Western Horizons RV Membership is the WORST Lorayne 11-16-09
I agree with all of the complaints listed. In Michigan, since Western Horizon took over the park near Newago in 2003, there has been nothing done to improve the facilities except the road into the park. The roads are still dirt in the resort, and generate dust whenever traffic goes by, not allowing us to have the windows open in the camper and have our camper filthy when we leave. I believe the concentration is to sell lots for lease and permanent homes instead of focusing on the RV campers. It is true regarding the billing. Last quarterly billing I had to call the districe office to get assistance. Again, no billing is sent for this quarter. Noone answers the phone, cannot leave a message; just have to call back. I believe the billings are not being sent out so if they're not paid, this will nullify the contract and we loose. Something to think about.
Re: Opinion: Western Horizons RV Membership is the WORST Susie 11-30-08
I just heard that effective 12-1-08 Western Horizon Resorts WHR are going to start charging $2-3 per day to ROD and AOR members. This is for internet/free phone calls/utilities. You currently have the choice to buy internet and upgrade to 50 amp and don't most of us have cell phones, so now they are forcing us to pay the fees. I wonder if they have modified their contract with ROD and AOR. I would be willing to bet that ROD and AOR are going to get a lot of complaints about this. I'm not sure about Coast 2 Coast members. In addition I saw a notice that they are also starting to sell off rv lots to WHR members. Won't this reduce the number of sites available to WHR members?
Re: Opinion: Western Horizons RV Membership is the WORST Don 11-7-09
I think I just got hoodwinked by park salesman and his wife, into buying a 5 yr membership. Now what happens if I don't pay them for my dirt patch with no wifi and cell and cable, 55 miles from nowhere.

Will they come and get my kids
Re: Opinion: Western Horizons RV Membership is the WORST GEORGE 11-9-09
WE HAVE BEEN MEMBERS SENCE 2001 WE GO FROM PARK TO PARK, NEVER BEEN CHAHGED A RESOVACTION FEE BEFOR NOW 2$ A NIGHT WE JUST WERE HERE AT ST.DAVID 45 DAYS AGO NO FEE!!! WENT TO ROCKPORT NO FEE!!! CAME BACK TO ST.DAVID BAMB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 2$A NIGHT RESERVATION FEE???????? THEY DONT KNOW FROM PARK TO PARK HOW TO DO ANYTHING!!!!!!!!!!! Re: Opinion: Western Horizons RV Membership is the WORST Susan 11-12-09
What is happening to WHR? My dues were supposedly frozen at $225/yr then a few years back a $20.00 fee was added for the reservation system. So now they are informing the members that a $2.00 per night fee for reservations/50 amp service/WiFi is needed besides the additional fee for electricity. You do wonder where the money is being used. I feel that Mr Loken has mismanaged the funds and is penalizing the members. There are certainly a lot of unhappy members and I can join them.
Re: Opinion: Western Horizons RV Membership is the WORST tim 2-24-09
Western Horizons is a total rip off. We paid over $8,000 but used our membership for only a few months before we just decided to abandon our membership. We refused to renew the following year, and have not paid any more annual re-up fees. We abandoned our WH, AOR, ROD memberships -- all of them a complete waste of time. I didn't even want to give away or try to sell someone this sham of a deal. We found that every single one of their dumpy "resorts" was a completely bogus waste of time. Substandard facilities, hookups that did not work, ramshackle accomodations, filthy, falling apart facilities. Unpaved roads within the RV parks, broken down sites, and in some cases, roads leading to their "resorts" were practically impassable because of zero maint. Western Horizons can barely deliver the bare essentials, let alone anything remotely resembling a resort. This is a classic bait and switch. Avoid them. We bought a lot at one of the Outdoor Resorts ($200,000) instead and absolutely love it.
Re: Opinion: Western Horizons RV Membership is the WORST GEORGE 10-20-09

Re: Opinion: Western Horizons RV Membership is the WORST Tom 9-27-09
We stayed a several WHR sites this past winter. It was our first time back since 2004 and we were quite disappointed that the resorts hadn't been improved at all since 2004. The roads at Desert Pools still had the same pot holes and poor lighting as before. Ramona Canyon had nothing new since we were there in 2004,staff was excellent though. Indio was the only resort that was really nice and we could only get a no sewer site at $8.00 a pump out. Casa Grande is just the same as 2001.Great activities though. Now sites that went for $6.00 in 2004 cost $15.00 and WIFI is spotty at best.
Re: Opinion: Western Horizons RV Membership is the WORST Mike 4-4-09
The fees have gone up to the point that I wonder why we paid so much up front. If the parks were better maintained it wouldn't hurt so much. I want to know where the money is going. WHR won't stop if we don't BAND TOGETHER and let him know we aren't going to take it. The parks depend on the workers and he has taken their perks away.
Does any one feel strongly enough to join in on a Civil Suit (or something) against WHR?
The fees went up 3-13-09 and are going up again in less than a month. We have to stop adding our money to Jim's personal pocket.
Re: Opinion: Western Horizons RV Membership is the WORST Carolyn Thomas 5-7-09
Our home park is in Rockport Texas and we have been a member for 9 years. We haven't gotten anything we were promised at our park. The park is falling down. We bought the cabin package and we can't ever get a room to stay in. We were promised new trailers that sleep six or more and we have yet to see one of them. Half of the land that were to be sites for these trailers are now beening sold to private owners. The one trailer that sleeps four is no longer in use because they said it would cost to much money to fix it up to be used. We pay our yearly dues and EXTRA fees but see nothing for them. I have tried to contact Jim Loken, but have not had any success. I tried by phone, email and a handwritten letter. I am frustrated and down right MAD. Let's get together and see if we can get this solved. Thank you
Re: Opinion: Western Horizons RV Membership is the WORST Jim 3-19-09
I doubt that the writer of the comment stating that Ramona Canyon is all new has ever been there in 2009.

Ramona Canyon did experience a fire, closed for a while and opened again. We visited there right after the fire and then again this winter. ALL NEW is not correct. All old, warn and in major need of repair is more like it.

The fire did burn some of the trees along the highway and that let some light in. But, when you are there look in the stream bed and see all of the fallen trees and dead brush just waiting to be the next source of a big problem.
Re: Opinion: Western Horizons RV Membership is the WORST Bruce 11-8-08
What do you want for the membership?
Re: Opinion: Western Horizons RV Membership is the WORST Mike 12-20-08
Bruce,
You want to know what people want?
I would have to say:
When I call I don't want a voice mailbox that is full and can not take anymore messages.
I road in the camp grounds that will not damage my RV when I drive on it.
Clean bathrooms that work just like the ones in our RV or home.
Water, Electric, and sewer hookups at the sites that work.
Yes it takes a LARGE investment to build or bring a camp ground up to speed, so if you don't have the money then don't buy the place.
Later
Mike
Re: Opinion: Western Horizons RV Membership is the WORST Linda 2-20-09
Western Horizons is selling lots in a bunch of the southwestern parks - ten at a time. From 29K to 49K..this should be the most serious discussion at this point for all members. Are the parks going to just disappear?
