|Re: pulling a 31 ft.soverign by Joe Colao|
|Hi. We tow our 1977 31' with a 1990 Chevy Astrovan. It does really well. We get about 25mph solo and 14-16mph towing. Prior to this Airstream we had a 1977 Excella 500. Both trailers have vacuum disc brakes. The Astro van has 256,000 mile on it. We replace the engine with new in 1997 about 100,000 miles ago. The Astro van has a much lower cg than other tow vehicles making it much more stable. Also a shorter distance between the hitch head and axel. This helps reduce sway. The transmission is the same as a suburban.
I agree about the LT tires. The only modifications we did to the Astrovan is 1. Lower profile LT tires, 2. Transmission cooler, 3. HD gas shocks.
Good luck in your choice. Joe
