||We have a 1993 Eurovan MV Weekender which we are seriously considering on selling. We just have to find the right home for it. We want this to go to a VERY GOOD home!!
We have taken most of our family vacations with it and it has just less than 118,000 miles. Its primary use has been our vacations. The savings in hotel costs have well covered the original cost of the van. The van HAS NOT been to Hawaii, Texas, Nebraska and Oklahoma. So, with that said, it has been in almost all the US States including Alaska and through a good portion of Canada.
We bought the van brand new and have kept it well maintained. It stays in the garage during the winter. If a part fails, it's immediately repaired. The oil, filters, belts and hoses are routinely maintained. We traded-in a 1987 Vanwagen Weekender for this then new 1993 Eurovan Weekender.
One thing we missed on the 87 van was the pantry. We created a pantry for the 93 van, which we put in place of the rear facing removable chair. The pantry is secured with stay tight straps and bungee cords into the hook braces used for the chair. We used the pantry to store cereal, bread, peanut butter, chips, snacks, paper plates, utensils, etc... Then with the milk, lunch meat and jelly kept in the refrigerator, we ate breakfast and lunch while driving to our destinations. We would include the pantry with the van if desired.
The Eurovan of this age and design initial had rusting problems around the windshield. Our Volkswagen dealership gave is a great deal which saved us lots. The front window was taken out, rust removed, drain holes enlarged, a new windshield installed and the whole van was repainted. Another issue with the early Eurovans was improper tire wear (cupping). Again, by working with our dealership, they identified a different rated tire that has eliminated the problem.
Three years ago, the A/C quit on our vacation in Florida. The compressor had burnt out. We had a re-conditioned compressor installed and the A/C works like new again. A new battery was installed in January. For a more complete history and additional information, we can provide the name and number of our mechanic.
Items needing attention that we are aware of:
1) Recently, we discovered a new rust spot at the bottom of the tail gate door. It's not very noticeable. Our plans were to have this fixed after a few more rust spots pop up.
2) My husband was hauling our lawn mower in for maintenance and he did not get it properly secured. The mower rolled hard against the inside panel of the sliding door while making a turn. This poked a small hole in the panel.
3) The exhaust system is original and has not been replaced. In our opinion it should be replaced sometime next year, unless a bigger problem comes up.
Reason for selling:
1) We havenít been able to take family vacations. Our children are in college so it is not possible to schedule a vacation between classes and their summer jobs to earn money to help with their college expenses. Besides that, our oldest graduates in December and will be moving away.
2) We down sized our home in March and lost garage space with the drop of a 3 car garage to a 2 car garage. With winter fast approaching we need to find it a new home with a garage or put it into storage.
This has been a very difficult decision for us. We have many fond family vacation memories. Our last vacation as a whole family was 3 years ago. Itís not right leaving the van sitting in the garage with very little use. It has many more miles, vacations and fond memories to provide.
We were in the process listing our van with poptopheaven.com when we came across your message on the bus conversion discussion forum. It intrigued us that you were specifically interested in a late model Eurovan Westfalia Weekender and this is exactly what we have.
We are quite aware of how hard the Eurovan is to find. We have been approach by several people interested in it or in locating one. We donít think we could handle seeing it driven around in our community for chance we might see it. It would just be too difficult.
We donít want to sell the van to just anyone. Itís our opinion that whoever pays us well for the van will have the funds to keep it maintained, give it love and will enjoy it as much as we have.
Our Eurovan is white/grey interior with a 5 cylinder, automatic transmission with the Sport dual transmission switch, power steering/windows/locks and cruise control. We have kept everything original to the van including the original tape cassette AM/FM radio. The VIN is WV2MC0708PH067716, if you would like to do a vehicle back ground search.
