I've just completed the swap of a Nissan Maxima 3.0 SOHC V6 into my '87 Synchro Vanagon. What a treat to drive! This is what I've wanted for years...all the good things about the Synchro Vanagon without all the drawbacks of the wasserboxer engine. If there is enough interest, I can make conversion plans and/or kits. Let me know.

Wow, sounds great..... I've got an 85 vanagon, what do you think the minimum engine size, either subaru and/or Nissan shiould be? Any particular engine model you suggest, or any web links to share?? I know there are companies that make mountinng kits for subaru's...but i can't find them on the web!!!??? Any advvice appreciated, cheers, alec

I've always wanted to put a nissan v6 in my 84 vanagon but could never find anyone who had even tried. I am very interested in seeing any pictures you have and to hear of some of the details if you could spare the time. Thank you Jess Miller

I have a 82 vanagon engine that i was going to put into my van but ended up getting over it at the last second. i bought the engine from quality german auto parts and had the following upgrades... larger vavles bored cylinders everything is ready to go on it. i even bought the oil + filter, and air filter. anyways im a vw enthusiast whos going off to ucla next year and can't take my car with me. call me at 949 3784087 karl_metzger@hotmail.com

I am looking for a 87 vanagon engine. I am desperate for an engine and looking for a good price on it since I don't have a whole lot of money. Also, is there any advice on what other engines I could use for a good price.

You guys need to check out http://www.vwmaxiwesty.com/ This is a VW mechanic that now only does V6 Nissan conversions. Last I heard he had done something like 14 vans, and he even includes stuff like check engine light, cruise control, and smog certification!!! Also, I think he's now doing engines as new as '98. Just check out his site and you'll see...
