|Canoe or luggage rack for Eurovan camper||Reid Buell||6-22-03|
Does anyone have any experience with or advice about putting a canoe rack on top of our new Eurovan camper? My wife and I love to canoe, have two of them, but are concerned about having a rack installed into the fiberglass top on our new pop-top Eurovan camper. The weight of one canoe is about 50 pounds.
It should be the same issue for anyone that has had a luggage rack installed on the top of a Eurovan.
Any advice would be appreciated. We would hate to install something that would leak or cause some other problem. Thanks, Reid.

Could you tell me the exact model of rack you have for your EV Camper.

My husband and I are finding that nobody in Oregon will install a roof rack on the camper because of cracking problems in the fiberglass. However, the EuroVan dealer in our area is more than willing to install Winnebago certified rack systems on top of the van but won't install Thule or Yakima. It sucks really. I see them everywhere with rack systems on them and have decided to just do it ourselves. Have you installed one yet? If so, did you encounter any problems?

Same issues as described. I checked the yakima site and the install recommendation is actually wrong. They recommend q towers with q12 clips, but this is actually for the eurovan without pop top. go westy sells the 1a raingutter yakima towers and recommends using the side clips. however this would connect into the fiberglass on the sides and does seem weak to me. i read a guy who claims to have used the yakima rail system and locking towers. he used 72" rails. seems good since the rail is installed with many screws across the top of the pop top shell which is very strong..... still trying to figure it out make a buy and install. will update if more info is available.

I have purchased Yakima tracks to install on a 2003 Eurovan. I have seen Eurovans with these intstalled. What type of bolt is used through the top and insulation.

I have and want to sell the luggage rack from my old Eurovan. from '95 I think. There are two pieces that clamp on and are removable.....very slick and solid design. I have used them. They work great. There is no bolting/driling required. They have their four locking covers so no one could remove them without the key. I have the paperwork with them too. $75 if someone wants them. I live in the Buffalo NY area and could ship them for probably $25 max. A telephone search would easily find my phone #.
