Im after a vw lt hi-top ( pref ambulance conversion type).
i want to use it as a camper / mobile sound studio.
i'm going for the lt on purely aesthetic reasons and only like the flat front model (pre 96?).
after searching for weeks ive now been told that the diesel 6 cylinder is renowned for cracking and that overall it aint a very good van, if i were getting one i'd be better off with petrol. the guy was a vw salesman but he recommended that i go for something more like a merc for cheaper running and reliability.
Hi, I've recently completely rebuilt the 1093cc engine in my mk1 Golf,(engine code GG). While it was dismantled I had the flywheel skimmed, the crank and pistons balanced, and the head was completely refurbished. Every component has been replaced, a brand new Weber carb (with a new shut off solenoid), a brand new bosch distributor, a new coil, plugs & leads, a new fuel tank, fuel pump(s)(!!), fuel lines & hoses, but I'm still having problems trying to get it to drive away. It starts perfectly, idles and revs perfectly but as soon as I go to drive it out of the car park it cuts out and sounds like it's running on three cylinders. It coughs and splutters black smoke but only when I try and drive it away.
I've had it compression tested and all is good, and the oil is as clean as the day I put it in there.(about five to six hours of ticking over and tinkering).
There doesn't look like much fuel is coming through the filter, it's just trickling through. (The filter is pointed flow downwards).
I have an immobiliser which a friend told me could have been the culprit to previous electrical problems but I'm hoping it's not that!.
I've swapped the relays over, not with new ones but numerous ones I've accumulated over the years of being a mk1 fan, but the car still doesn't want to play ball!. It still cuts out!
Please!, please!, please! help a desperate fool who just wants to have a trouble free Volkswagen?!
Yours hopefully
Nic Briers
Hello
I am looking for a replacement carburettor for my 1987 VW LT 31 van. It is a 2.4 6 cylinder (manual choke). The reg is D336 WJC (however the vehicle registration has been changed and used to be D558 SAM). The engine number is DL016651 and chassis number is WV2ZZZ28ZGH006269. If you can help me, or know anyone who can, that would be much appreciated.
Many thanks
Anthony :)
