My wife's '97 vw jetta was cruising down a county road at 55 when suddenly the check engine light started flashing and the car started to lose power fast. she said that it seems as if it was holding back or pulling here back. any ideas would be helpful, i try to some of the work myself, but have no idea in this case. thanks
Can anybody tell were the vacuum line and the valve/solenoid is on my 97 jetta GLX (VR6)? My check engine light came on recently and the problem was code PO411. I heard to check the vacuum line and valve solenoid, but have no idea where this is. Any suggestions? Thanks
My daugh. is having a similar problem except she has noticed a noisy vibration in the pass. rear of car. Have you found your problem and was it in the fuel delivery system? Do you get to the fuel pump thru the trunk?
The owners manual in the 96 Jetta says to have the catalytic converter checked if the engine light is blinking. If the converter is clogged it will cause alot of problems.
I have a 97 jetta 4 cyl. 125,000 mi.
car runs awesome despite its 1 tune up
since i bought it new. recently the check engine light came on when i took off at a green light. granted i revved it up to around 5000rpms but this had never happened. light flashed for maybe 15 sec. then just stayed on for about a week. also when i stop a light now, my rpms sometimes drop under 1000 and it shakes a little. help me!!!!!!
If this is a 2.0l it could be the hall effect sensor in the distributor, i had a customers car that had the some problem, you might have to get a new or used distributor. question? if you reve the engine does the check engine light go out some thimes? if so it is the the distributor for sure. and also check the wiring that goes to the dis too.
Last month the pipe that connects the catalitic converter to the muffler got cracked some how and had to be welded back together, it's really noisy towards the back. If that is whats wrong dont get ripped off. Its way cheep to get it fixed.
I got a 2.0 that loses power when i turn on the a/c and stalls out at times...it seem not to make up for the power it need for the a/c to run???? any answers would be appreciated...thanks

I have the same problem except mine started after i changed the timing belt and other belts. i had the codes read and one is showing "idle adaptation at limit" and the other is "Camshaft position sensor range/performance"
the car runs fine when its cold but after it warms up it lacks serious power below 3000 rpm. i checked the vacuum lines and i believe the fuel pressure regulator is to blame but im not sure.
I have 98 jetta and have the same problem. The idle drops and stalls when I decelerate and stop. This problem is even more noticable when the ac is turned on. I have recently replaced the O2 sensor but it did not work.
I had a similar problem with my 2.0 1996 Jetta. While driving on the highway, the car will start shaking, and power loss will occur for no apparent reason. I have noticed that this behavior mostly occur when it is raining or after it finishes to rain. I took the car to the dealer. They found that the problem was with Ignition coil (parts # 6N0-905-104). After $320.13 (160.13 for parts and 160 for labor) the car was fixed. It was explained to me that the two hours labor was for diagnose the problem. That was their excuse for ripping me off. Now three months later, I am experiencing the same problem. The Dealer has asked me to come in so they can fix it, because the work is still under warranty.
My alarm keeps going off in my 97 jetta. it will randomly go off when i open the door or sometimes even when i'm driving. how do i disable the alarm? It's really annoying and I can't stand it anymore. I've heard this is a common problem. Help!!
