80 VW Westfalia - any good? beau 8-1-02  
There is a 1980 westfalia for sale in my hometown for 3.5k and I'm just curious to know if anyone knows if that is a good year for them? Any problems that could be typical that I might want to look out for?

I recently purchased the same van. I brought it in from Germany With the cost of shipping, duty etc, I paid $6000.00 It is in very good shape only 93 k's on it. Runs very well. They are new to me so, I'm hoping things will be okay.I saw some local ones here in Vancouver B.C. going for over $8000.00 so, yours sounds pretty good if it's in good shape. We have an 80 and an 81 Westfalia and have had lots of fun in them. However, we have had problems when we have gone any great distance. My husband loves them both and won't give them up--continues to fix and re-fix. We live in Florida. What state are you in?

I read you own an 1980 VW Westfalia and you have had some problems when going on a long trip? What kind of problims did you encounter? Do you have A/C? Do you have two batteries in yours? Do yo have a batterie box under both front seats?
